2014-2015 Curriculum

Ahhh, curriculum. You know you're a homeschool mama when that very word is like music to your ears! I love the fact that I get to spend hours time researching and choosing what I feel will be the most effective curriculum to teach my own kiddos! Here's what I've got planned for our 2014-2015 school year.

Heart of Dakota - Little Hands to Heaven

Little Hands To Heaven (LHTH) seemed like the perfect fit for our family this year. I wanted something that was Biblically based, hands on, pretty much open and go, and would be able to meet the needs of a pre-k and tot-school/preschooler. We've already done 2 full weeks, and I'm so happy that we went this route. It's certainly not the most challenging curriculum out there for a 4 year old, and some activities prove to be quite challenging for a 2 year old. However, we are having a ton of FUN!

All About Reading Pre-Reading

Both kids BEG (I'm not kidding, they literally BEG!!) to do school with Ziggy the Zebra. They LOVE All About Reading.  This programs teaches preschool aged kiddos five very important pre-reading skills: print awareness, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, listening comprehension, and motivation to read. This is all done in ways where my kids don't even feel like they are doing "school". Interactive games, crafts, read-alouds, and hands on exploration of letters and sounds are part of every lesson! We try to fit 3 lessons in a week depending on our schedule.

Sonlight P3/4

We used this core for our preschool last year, and enjoyed reading many of the stories and doing the little go along activities. This year, the plan is to go through and read some of the stories we skipped (because the boys didn't show any interest), as well as re-read our favorites. We will be using the Usborne Flip-Flap Body book for some science studies, and Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day for a social studies unit.

And of course lots of play, leisure reading, library trips, field trips and nature studies will complete our homeschool year!
